EU agency — public platform serving half a million people

RoleLead Drupal developer, ongoing since 2024
PlatformDrupal 10/11 · AWS and Azure
Scale500,000+ users · 150+ modules maintained in production
ComplianceWCAG 2.2 · regulatory audit requirements

The situation. A mission-critical public platform with a large legacy estate, an accessibility obligation that had to be evidenced rather than asserted, and a publishing process that depended on manual document handling. The site could not be taken offline and could not be rebuilt.

What I did. Took over lead development of the platform and stabilised the legacy Drupal 9/10 codebase. Built custom modules integrating REST APIs with Azure AD and AWS to connect enterprise data workflows. Brought public-facing platforms to WCAG 2.2 compliance, working directly with stakeholders against audit and regulatory standards — and then wrote the compliance guidance that every subsequent Drupal project at the organisation now follows. Worked with DevOps to configure AWS infrastructure for uptime and scale.

Result. The accessibility position moved from undocumented to auditable, and the compliance guides turned a one-off remediation into a standard the organisation applies by default. The platform continues to run on Drupal 11 with 150+ modules under active maintenance.

Czech Radio — the largest Drupal integration in the Czech Republic

RoleSenior full-stack Drupal developer
PlatformDrupal 7/8
DurationTwo-year site-building programme
Audience300,000+ listeners

The situation. A national public broadcaster consolidating its web presence onto a single platform — high traffic, continuous publishing, and no acceptable window for downtime.

What I did. Two years of site building and integration work across the platform, covering content architecture, editorial workflow and the integrations that made a broadcaster's publishing operation run on Drupal.

Result. Sustained uptime for an audience of 300,000+ listeners, on what remains the largest Drupal integration in the Czech Republic.

Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs — EVALDO

RoleSenior Drupal developer, seven years (2017–2024)
PlatformDrupal 8–10 · multiple government sites
Flagship systemEVALDO — EU-funded competency assessment
Scale500,000+ users

The situation. A ministry running several public-facing Drupal platforms, with an EU-funded competency assessment programme that needed to collect structured data from half a million users and feed it into policy work.

What I did. Built and maintained the ministry's Drupal 8–10 estate across seven years. Developed a custom competency assessment module for EVALDO with XML and CSV API feeds. Ran stakeholder communication for the programme, translating between technical delivery and governmental priorities, and carried the platforms through successive Drupal major upgrades.

Result. EVALDO delivered on schedule inside a government programme structure. Seven years on the same estate is the more telling number: no rebuild, no replatform, and continuity through three major version upgrades.

Doctors Without Borders — donation processing

RoleSenior Drupal developer
PlatformDrupal 10/11
BuiltCustom payment modules · CiviCRM · Darujme API

The situation. An international NGO whose donation flow needed to reconcile into CiviCRM without manual handling, with checkout friction costing conversions.

What I did. Built custom payment modules connecting the Darujme donation API and CiviCRM, and integrated custom payment forms directly into Drupal to streamline the checkout.

Result. Donation workflows improved by 25%.

Earlier

Before the public-sector work: 10+ custom Drupal 10/11 payment and integration modules delivered through agency contracts; 8+ Drupal 8 projects with custom modules and payment integrations at Freely Agency; and seven flagship Drupal 6/7/8 projects at Aira Group leading a team of six developers, where introducing code standards cut defects by 30%.

Sectors

EU institutions and agencies, national government, public broadcasting, enterprise, healthcare, universities and non-profits — each with its own compliance profile, and each needing a different answer to the same question about who is allowed to see what.
